Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify basic shapes, count objects related to construction, and understand simple scientific concepts related to building structures.
Materials and Prep
- Toy building blocks (different shapes and sizes)
- Construction-themed picture books
- Construction toy vehicles
- Construction paper
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge needed. Just bring your enthusiasm for construction!
Activities
- Shape Building: Use the building blocks to create different shapes like squares, triangles, and rectangles. Talk about each shape as you build.
- Counting Construction Vehicles: Count the number of toy construction vehicles you have. Practice counting out loud.
- Coloring Construction Scenes: Use the construction paper and markers to draw and color your own construction site. Be creative!
Talking Points
- Shapes: "Look, this block is a square. It has four sides that are all the same length."
- Counting: "Let's count how many trucks we have. One, two, three, four! Four trucks!"
- Construction: "When we build a tower with blocks, we need to make sure it's strong so it doesn't fall down. Just like real buildings!"
