Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and name different ocean animals, understand basic ocean concepts, and engage in reading activities related to the ocean theme.
Materials and Prep
- Pictures or illustrations of various ocean animals
- Books about the ocean
- Construction paper
- Markers or crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
Prior to the lesson, familiarize yourself with the names and characteristics of different ocean animals.
Activities
- Introduce the topic of the ocean to the toddler by showing pictures or illustrations of different ocean animals. Talk about their names, colors, and where they live.
- Read a book about the ocean together. Ask the toddler questions about the story and encourage them to point out the ocean animals they learned about earlier.
- Engage in a craft activity where the toddler can create their own ocean scene using construction paper, markers or crayons, scissors, and glue. Help them cut out ocean animals from the construction paper and glue them onto the paper to create an underwater scene.
- Read another book about the ocean, focusing on the different environments and habitats within the ocean. Discuss the concept of the ocean being made up of different zones and the animals that live in each zone.
- Wrap up the lesson by reviewing the names of the ocean animals and asking the toddler to recall some of the information they learned about the ocean.
Toddler Grade Talking Points

- "In this book, we will learn about different parts of the ocean. Can you name some animals that live near the surface of the water?"
- "Great job learning about the ocean today! Can you tell me one thing you remember about the ocean animals we talked about?"
