Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create your own boxcar using simple materials.

Materials and Prep

  • Cardboard box (shoebox or similar size)
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Imagination and creativity!

Activities

1. Design your boxcar by decorating the outside of the cardboard box with markers or crayons.

2. Cut out windows and doors on the box to make it look like a real boxcar.

3. Use tape to add any extra decorations or details to your boxcar.

Talking Points

  • Boxcars are like little homes on wheels. They can take people on exciting adventures!
  • Say: "Let's use our markers to make our boxcar colorful and fun, just like the ones in the Boxcar Children stories!"
  • Windows and doors are important for a boxcar so that people can see inside and go in and out easily.
  • Say: "Imagine all the places you can go in your boxcar. What do you see outside the windows?"
  • Tape can help us stick things together securely. Let's use it to add some special touches to our boxcar.
  • Say: "Great job! Your boxcar looks amazing. Now, let's pretend we are going on a journey together in our new boxcar!"
