By the end of this lesson, you will understand the character trait of deference, be able to identify examples of deference in stories, and know how to show deference in different situations.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Bible, notebook, pen
Prep: Familiarize yourself with the story of David and King Saul from the Bible.
Activities
1. Read and discuss a Bible verse about deference, such as Philippians 2:3 - "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves."
2. Read the story of David showing deference to King Saul in 1 Samuel 24, and discuss how David's actions demonstrated deference.
3. Role-play scenarios where you can show deference to others, such as letting someone else choose a game to play or helping a family member without being asked.
