Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to form equal groups by sharing and counting collections of objects.
Materials and Prep
- Assorted small objects (e.g., buttons, coins, toys)
- Counting mat or paper
- Enthusiasm and a positive attitude!
Activities
Activity 1: Sort your collection of objects into equal groups. For example, put 6 buttons into 2 equal groups.
Activity 2: Count the objects in each group. Practice counting aloud as you do this.
Activity 3: Share the objects with a toy friend or family member. Make sure each friend gets the same number of objects.
Talking Points
"Let's make two groups with our buttons. How many buttons should be in each group to make them equal?"
"Now, count how many buttons are in each group. Let's say the numbers together!"
"Great job! Now, let's share these toys with your toy friend. Remember, it's important that each friend gets the same number of toys."
