Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to learn about shapes, measurements, and chemical reactions through baking!
Materials and Prep
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Baking ingredients (flour, sugar, eggs, butter)
- Mixing bowls and utensils
- Oven (with adult supervision)
- Apron and chef's hat (optional but fun!)
Make sure to have all ingredients and materials ready on the kitchen counter before starting the lesson.
Activities
- Shape Cookies: Use cookie cutters to make cookies in different shapes like circles, squares, and triangles. Talk about the shapes as you cut them out.
- Measuring Fun: Let the child help measure ingredients using measuring cups and spoons. Discuss concepts of more, less, and equal amounts.
- Baking Time: Place the cookies in the oven and observe as they bake. Talk about how the heat makes the cookies rise and change texture.
Talking Points
- Shapes: "Let's make a circle cookie! Can you find other round things in the kitchen?"
- Measurements: "We need 2 cups of flour. Can you help me pour it into the bowl?"
- Baking Process: "The cookies are getting bigger in the oven. That's the heat making them rise!"
