Talking Points
"Let's start with the word 'addition.' When we add two numbers together, we are finding the total or sum. For example, 2 + 3 equals 5."
"Subtraction is when we take away one number from another. If we have 5 apples and eat 2, we are left with 3 apples. So, 5 - 2 equals 3."
"Multiplication is just a fancy way of adding the same number multiple times. For instance, 3 x 4 means we add 3 four times: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 equals 12."
"Division is like sharing or grouping. If we have 12 cookies and want to share them equally among 3 friends, each friend gets 4 cookies. So, 12 ÷ 3 equals 4."
"Fractions are parts of a whole. If we have a pizza and eat half of it, we have consumed 1/2 of the pizza. It's like dividing the pizza into two equal parts."
