Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will learn about different fruits and how to make delicious fruit ice cubes.

Materials and Prep

  • Assorted fruits (such as berries, oranges, kiwi)
  • Ice cube tray
  • Water
  • Knife (with adult supervision)
  • Cutting board
  • Freezer

No special preparation needed, just make sure to have all the materials ready.

Activities

  • Explore different fruits and talk about their colors, shapes, and tastes.
  • Take a closer look at each fruit and describe how it looks and feels. You can also taste a small piece to understand its flavor.

  • Cut the fruits into small pieces with adult help and place them in the compartments of the ice cube tray.
  • Use a kid-safe knife to cut the fruits into small chunks. Fill each compartment with a different fruit.

  • Pour water over the fruits in the tray and place it in the freezer to make fruit ice cubes.
  • Slowly pour water over the fruits in the tray, making sure they are covered. Put the tray in the freezer and wait for the cubes to freeze.

  • Once frozen, take out the fruit ice cubes and enjoy them in a glass of water or juice.
  • Pop out the colorful fruit ice cubes and add them to a drink. Watch as they add flavor and color!

Talking Points

  • “Fruits come in different colors like red, orange, and green. What color is your favorite fruit?”
  • “When we cut fruits, we can see different shapes like circles, triangles, and squares. What shape did you cut?”
  • “Water turns into ice when we put it in the freezer. What do you think will happen to the fruits when they freeze?”
  • “Eating fruits is healthy for our bodies. They give us energy and make us strong. Which fruit do you think is the tastiest?”
