Fruity Fun & Veggie Ventures!

Materials Needed:

  • A selection of real fruits and vegetables (e.g., apple, banana, carrot, broccoli, orange, grapes)
  • Picture books or simple reading passages about fruits and vegetables
  • Optional: Flashcards with pictures and names of fruits/vegetables
  • Paper and crayons/markers

Let's Get Started! (Introduction - 10 mins)

Welcome! Today, we're going on an exciting adventure to explore the colorful world of fruits and vegetables! Look at all these yummy foods we have (show the selection). Can you name any of them? Let's touch and smell them. What colors do you see? Are they smooth or bumpy?

Reading Time! (15-20 mins)

Now, let's read a fun story (or poem) about fruits and vegetables. We'll read it together. Listen carefully for the names of different fruits and veggies!

(Read a selected book or passage aloud. Example: A simple poem like 'Apples are red, Bananas are yellow, Carrots are orange, And oh so mellow!')

After reading, let's talk about it:

  • What fruits or vegetables were mentioned in our reading?
  • Can you point to the real fruit/vegetable that we read about?
  • Did you hear any rhyming words? (e.g., yellow/mellow)
  • What color was the apple in the story?

Word Fun! (10 mins)

Let's look at some words! (Use flashcards or write words down). Can you match the word 'apple' to the real apple? How about 'carrot'? Let's practice tracing or writing some of these fun food words.

Activity Time! (10-15 mins)

Let's draw! Choose your favorite fruit or vegetable from our collection or the story. Draw a picture of it and try to write its name underneath. What colors will you use? Tell me about what you drew.

Wrap-up (5 mins)

Great job exploring fruits and vegetables today! You did wonderfully with your reading and identifying skills. What was your favorite part? Maybe later, we can even taste some of these healthy treats!
