Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a beautiful eclipse art piece using yellow and gray circles.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed:
- Black paper
- Yellow chalk or crayons
- Yellow and gray circles cut out from construction paper
- Glue
Prep: Cut out yellow and gray circles from construction paper before the lesson.
Activities
1. Start by gluing the yellow circle on the black paper to represent the sun.
2. Use yellow chalk or crayons to draw rays around the yellow circle to show the sun's brightness.
3. Glue the gray circle on top of the yellow circle to represent the moon covering the sun during an eclipse.
Talking Points
- When the moon moves between the sun and the Earth, it creates a solar eclipse. Say, "The moon is covering the sun like a big shadow!"
- The sun is a big, bright star that gives us light and warmth. Say, "The sun is like a giant light bulb in the sky!"
- Yellow and gray are the colors we use to represent the sun and the moon. Say, "Yellow is for the sun's bright light, and gray is for the moon's shadow."
- Glue helps us stick things together to make our artwork. Say, "Let's use glue to make sure the sun and moon stay in place on our paper."
