Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create music inspired by the outdoors using your voice and body as instruments.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials needed, just your imagination!
  • Find a comfortable space outdoors where you can move freely.

Activities

  • Nature Sounds Symphony: Close your eyes and listen to the sounds of nature around you. Mimic these sounds using your voice. Can you sound like a chirping bird or rustling leaves?
  • Dance Like the Wind: Feel the wind on your face and move your body in response to its gentle or strong touch. Dance freely to the rhythm of the wind.
  • Raindrop Rhythms: Imagine raindrops falling on different surfaces - a roof, a leaf, the ground. Create rhythmic patterns by tapping your hands on your body or any nearby objects.

Talking Points

  • “Nature is like a big music concert happening all around us. Can you hear the different instruments playing?”
  • “When you close your eyes and listen, what sounds do you hear in the outdoors? Let's try to make those sounds with our voices.”
  • “Just like dancers follow the music, we can follow the wind's movements with our own special dance moves. How does the wind make you feel?”
  • “Raindrops have their own special rhythm when they fall. Can you tap out the beat of the raindrops on your body?”
