Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic addition and subtraction through fun activities related to your favorite Youtube videos.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Paper, pencil, favorite Youtube video

Prep: Have your favorite Youtube video ready to watch and a space to do some math activities.

Activities

  • Watch your favorite Youtube video and count how many characters you see. Write down the number.

  • Pause the video at different points and ask yourself math questions like "If 2 characters leave, how many are left?"

  • Create a math story related to the video. For example, "If each character found 3 gems, how many gems were found in total?"

Talking Points

  • "Let's count together how many characters we see in the video. 1, 2, 3... Great job!"

  • "Now, let's imagine if 2 characters leave the video. How many characters are left? Let's count and find out!"

  • "Imagine each character in the video found 3 gems. How many gems were found in total? Let's solve it together."
