Activities
- Listen for the sounds of birds and insects. Can you imitate any of them?
- Look for different types of leaves on trees or plants. How many shapes and colors can you find?
- Find a spot to sit quietly and observe. What animals or insects do you see moving around?
Take a moment to close your eyes and listen carefully to the different sounds around you. Try to mimic the sounds you hear!
Collect a few leaves that catch your eye and compare their colors, shapes, and sizes. Are they all the same?
Choose a cozy spot to sit and watch for any animals or insects that come into view. Can you guess what they might be doing?
Talking Points
- Plants and trees are living things that need sunlight and water to grow big and strong.
- Animals and insects are part of nature too. They have their homes and families just like we do.
- Nature is full of surprises and beauty. Sometimes we have to be quiet and patient to see all the wonderful things around us.
"Look at this tree! It's reaching up to the sun so it can make food to grow big and tall."
"See that little squirrel? It's looking for food to store in its home for the winter, just like we keep snacks in our pantry."
"Let's sit quietly and wait. Maybe we'll see a butterfly flutter by or a bird singing its sweet song."
