Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will understand what it means to be a good citizen and how you can contribute positively to your community.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Paper, coloring supplies, and your imagination.

Prep: None needed, just bring your enthusiasm!

Activities

  • Create a "Citizenship Superhero": Draw a superhero that represents a good citizen. What powers would they have to help others?

  • Community Helper Interview: Pretend to be a reporter and interview a family member or friend about how they contribute to the community.

  • Make a Thank You Card: Create a thank you card for someone in your community who has helped others. It could be a teacher, a doctor, or even a neighbor.

Talking Points

  • Being a good citizen means helping others and following rules. Remember, "In a gentle way, you can shake the world." - Mahatma Gandhi

  • Every person can make a difference no matter how small they are. As Dr. Seuss said, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."

  • Respecting others and being kind is essential. Just like Fred Rogers said, "There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind."
