Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will have learned the basics of starting a cupcake business and be able to create your own yummy cupcakes to sell!

Materials and Prep

  • Cupcake ingredients (flour, sugar, eggs, butter, etc.)
  • Cupcake baking pans and liners
  • Icing ingredients (powdered sugar, butter, vanilla extract, etc.)
  • Decorating tools (sprinkles, piping bags, etc.)
  • An apron and chef's hat to get into baking mode!
  • Parental supervision for using the oven and handling hot items.

Activities

  • Cupcake Recipe Hunt: Search for a simple cupcake recipe online or in a cookbook with your parent. Choose one that you'd like to try!
  • Baking Time: Follow the recipe step by step to bake your cupcakes. Don't forget to preheat the oven!
  • Decorating Fun: Once the cupcakes are cooled, get creative with icing and decorations. Make them look irresistible!
  • Price Tag Creation: Design price tags for your cupcakes. How much will you sell them for?
  • Sell to Family and Friends: Set up a small cupcake stand at home and practice your sales skills. Be sure to count your earnings!
