Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create your own simple cross stitch design!

Materials and Prep

Materials needed:

  • Plastic canvas
  • Yarn in various colors
  • Plastic needle
  • Scissors

Before we start, make sure to have a clear workspace and be ready to have fun!

Activities

1. Learn the basic cross stitch technique by practicing on the plastic canvas.

2. Create your own simple design using different colored yarns.

3. Show off your finished cross stitch design to your family and friends!

Talking Points

  • Let's start by threading the plastic needle with a piece of yarn. Say, "Through the front, pull it back, that's how we start our cross stitch track!"
  • Now, poke the needle through a hole on the plastic canvas and pull the yarn through. Say, "In and out, up and down, watch me make a stitch so neat and round!"
  • Repeat the stitch to create a row of crosses. Say, "Cross stitch, cross stitch, one by one, we're making art, oh what fun!"
  • Use different colors to make your design unique. Say, "Red, blue, yellow, green, the prettiest colors you've ever seen!"
  • Show off your finished creation with pride. Say, "Look what I made, a masterpiece so fine, my cross stitch design is truly mine!"
