Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of gravity through engaging games and activities.
Materials and Prep
- Indoor space with no breakable items around
- Bouncy balls or any small objects that can roll
- A stopwatch or timer
- A notebook and pen
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a clear space to play in and gather all the materials listed above.
Activities
- Bounce and Time: Drop different bouncy balls from the same height and time how long it takes for each ball to hit the ground. Record your results in the notebook.
- Rolling Race: Set up a simple ramp using books and race different objects down it. Observe which object reaches the bottom first and discuss why.
- Gravity Art: Dip a ball in paint and drop it onto paper to create unique gravity art. Notice how gravity affects the direction and pattern of the paint splatter.
Talking Points
- Gravity is a force that pulls things towards the Earth. "Imagine there's an invisible force that keeps pulling things down to the ground, that's gravity!"
- Objects fall at the same rate regardless of their weight. "Even if something is heavy or light, gravity makes them fall at the same speed!"
- Gravity is what keeps us on the ground and makes things stay in place. "If there was no gravity, we would all be floating around like astronauts in space!"
