Materials and Prep
Materials needed:
- Binoculars (optional)
- Magnifying glass
- Sketchbook
- Coloring pencils or crayons
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen
No prior knowledge needed, just bring your curiosity and sense of wonder!
Activities
1. Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of items like a leaf, a pinecone, or a bird feather for Elisabeth to find in the backyard or a nearby park.
2. Bird Watching: Use the binoculars (if available) to observe birds in the area. Encourage Elisabeth to sketch or describe the birds she sees.
3. Nature Sketching: Find a quiet spot outside and have Elisabeth sketch something in nature that catches her eye. It could be a flower, a tree, or even a bug!
4. Cloud Watching: Lie down on a blanket and look up at the sky. Ask Elisabeth what shapes she sees in the clouds and encourage imaginative interpretations.
Talking Points
- Look at the trees around us. What colors do you see in the leaves? Remember, trees provide us with oxygen to breathe. Isn't that amazing?
- Do you hear the birds singing? Each bird has its own special song. They use it to talk to each other and find their families. Let's try to spot them!
- When you look closely at a flower or a bug, what do you notice? Nature is full of tiny details that make each plant and creature special.
- Have you ever seen shapes in the clouds? It's like nature's own art show in the sky. What can you imagine the clouds look like today?
