Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and solve algebraic equations while having fun with YouTube.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil
  • A computer or tablet with internet access
  • Basic knowledge of arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)

Activities

  1. Watch educational YouTube videos on algebraic equations.

Search for algebra-related channels or specific algebra topics on YouTube. Watch videos that explain the basics of algebra, such as solving one-step equations or simplifying expressions. Take notes on key concepts and examples.

  2. Create your own algebra tutorial video.

Using the knowledge you gained from the videos, create a short tutorial video explaining how to solve a specific type of algebraic equation. You can use a whiteboard or paper to write out the steps and examples. Make sure to explain each step clearly and provide examples for practice.

  3. Share your video with friends or family.

Upload your video to a video-sharing platform or share it directly with your friends or family members who are also interested in learning algebra. Encourage them to watch your video and try solving the equations along with you.

Seventh Grade Talking Points

  • "Algebra is a branch of mathematics that uses letters and symbols to represent numbers and quantities."
  • "Equations are mathematical statements that show that two expressions are equal. We can solve equations to find the value of the unknown variable."
  • "In algebra, we use different operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to manipulate equations and solve for the variable."
  • "Solving equations involves isolating the variable on one side of the equation by performing the same operation on both sides."
  • "By watching educational YouTube videos and creating your own tutorial, you can improve your understanding of algebra and help others learn too."
