Materials and Prep

No prior knowledge needed, just come with a willingness to learn!

Activities

  • Addition Race: Set a timer for 1 minute and see how many addition problems you can solve correctly in that time.
  • Subtraction Scavenger Hunt: Find objects around the house and create subtraction problems to solve using those objects.
  • Math Story Time: Create a story where characters go on adventures that involve addition and subtraction. Write down the math problems as they occur in the story.

  • Introduction to Addition: "Addition is putting things together. When we add numbers, we are finding the total."
  • Introduction to Subtraction: "Subtraction is taking things away. When we subtract numbers, we are finding the difference."
  • Practice Makes Perfect: "The more we practice addition and subtraction, the better we become at solving math problems quickly and accurately."
