Objective

To learn and practice math concepts through fun car racing activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Toy cars or images of cars
  • Paper and pencil

No prior knowledge needed. Just bring your enthusiasm for car racing!

Activities

  • Race Distance Calculation: Set up a mini race track and measure the distance. Calculate how many laps a car needs to complete to reach a certain distance.
  • Speed Calculation: Time toy cars racing over a set distance. Calculate the speed of each car in meters per second.
  • Car Race Graphing: Create a simple bar graph to compare the speeds of different toy cars.

Talking Points

  • Distance Calculation: "To find out how far a car travels in one lap, we measure the track's length. If the track is 5 meters long and the car needs to travel 20 meters, how many laps does it need to complete?"
  • Speed Calculation: "Speed tells us how fast something moves. If a car takes 10 seconds to travel 20 meters, what is its speed in meters per second?"
  • Graphing: "We can use a bar graph to compare the speeds of different cars. Each bar represents a car's speed. Which car is the fastest on our graph?"
