Materials and Prep

  • Business-related articles or excerpts
  • Dictionary or online access to a dictionary
  • Pen or pencil
  • Notebook or paper for taking notes
  • Computer or tablet with internet access (optional)

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by discussing the importance of reading in the business world. Ask the student to share their thoughts on why reading skills are valuable for entrepreneurs and business professionals.

  2. Reading and Vocabulary: Provide the student with a business-related article or excerpt. Ask them to read it carefully and identify any unfamiliar vocabulary words. Encourage the use of a dictionary or online resources to look up the meanings of these words. Have the student create a vocabulary list with definitions and examples of how the words are used in the context of the article.

  3. Comprehension Questions: After the student has familiarized themselves with the vocabulary, ask them to answer comprehension questions about the article. These questions should require critical thinking and analysis of the text. Encourage the student to refer back to the article to support their answers.

  4. Discussion: Engage the student in a discussion about the article's main ideas, key takeaways, and any personal reflections they may have. Encourage them to express their opinions and provide evidence from the text to support their views.

  5. Reflection and Application: Ask the student to reflect on how the reading material relates to their interest in business. Have them write a short paragraph discussing how the concepts or ideas presented in the article can be applied to their own entrepreneurial or business goals.
