Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and create simple ocean-themed art while practicing basic math skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Blue construction paper
  • White paper
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Prepare some ocean-themed images for reference

Activities

  • Create an ocean scene: Have the student draw and color ocean animals and plants on the blue construction paper. Cut out some white paper waves and glue them onto the blue paper.

  • Counting seashells: Draw some seashells on a paper and ask the student to count them. Encourage them to color each shell as they count.

  • Shape recognition with fish: Draw different shapes of fish on a paper and ask the student to identify the shapes. They can color the fish afterward.

Talking Points

  • "Look at the ocean animals! Can you draw a fish like this?"

  • "Let's count the seashells together. One, two, three..."

  • "What shape is this fish? It's a triangle! Can you color it blue?"
