Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will learn how to create beautiful woven paper art pieces using different colors and patterns.

Materials and Prep

  • Various colored papers
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

No prior knowledge required, just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!

Activities

  • Create a paper loom by cutting slits along the top and bottom of a piece of paper.
  • Use the ruler to make straight lines and the scissors to cut the slits. This will be the base for your weaving.

  • Cut strips of colored paper to weave through the loom.
  • Choose different colors and patterns to make your weaving unique and colorful.

  • Weave the strips of paper over and under through the slits to create your design.
  • Remember to alternate the weaving pattern to make it interesting!

  • Experiment with different weaving techniques like braiding or layering.
  • Try out different ways to weave the paper strips to see what cool designs you can come up with!

Talking Points

  • Let's start by making our paper loom. Say, "We are creating the base for our weaving by making these slits in the paper."
  • Now, cut strips of colored paper. Say, "Let's choose our favorite colors to make our weaving bright and colorful."
  • Weave the strips over and under. Say, "We are making a pattern by weaving the paper through the slits."
  • Try different weaving techniques. Say, "Let's get creative and try braiding or layering the paper strips for a fun design."
