By the end of this lesson, you will learn about measuring ingredients, counting, and observing changes in ingredients as you create a simple recipe.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: measuring cups and spoons, mixing bowl, ingredients for a simple recipe (e.g., flour, sugar, eggs), mixing spoon, oven (with adult supervision).

Prep: Wash hands before starting. Make sure all ingredients are easily accessible.

Activities

1. Measuring Fun: Practice measuring different ingredients using measuring cups and spoons. Let's count together as we add each ingredient.

2. Mixing Magic: Mix the ingredients in the bowl using a mixing spoon. Notice how the ingredients change as they get mixed together.

3. Baking Adventure: With adult help, place the mixture in the oven. Watch through the oven window as it bakes and rises.

Talking Points

  • Measuring Ingredients: "Let's use this cup to scoop up some flour. Can you count with me as we add it to the bowl?"
  • Observing Changes: "Look how the sugar disappears as we mix it with the flour. It's like magic!"
  • Counting Practice: "We need 2 eggs for this recipe. Can you show me 2 fingers to add them in?"
  • Patience in Baking: "The oven is like a magic box. We have to wait for a little while for our creation to be ready."
  • Enjoying the Results: "Now, let's taste our delicious creation! How does it make you feel?"
