Objective
By the end of this lesson, the Fourth grade student will be able to demonstrate basic dance moves and understand the importance of physical fitness in relation to dance.
Materials and Prep
- An open space with enough room to move freely
- Comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear
- A device with internet access to watch instructional dance videos (optional)
Activities
- Warm-up: Begin the lesson with a 5-minute warm-up routine to get the body ready for movement. Include exercises like jumping jacks, jogging in place, and stretching.
- Introduction to Dance: Discuss the history and different styles of dance. Show examples of various dance styles through videos or pictures.
- Learning Basic Dance Moves: Teach the student basic dance moves such as the grapevine, chassé, and pirouette. Demonstrate each move and provide step-by-step instructions.
- Practice Routine: Create a short dance routine using the basic moves learned. Break it down into smaller sections and practice each section until the student feels comfortable.
- Cool-down: End the lesson with a 5-minute cool-down routine to stretch and relax the muscles. Include exercises like toe touches, shoulder rolls, and deep breathing.
