Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to bake delicious chocolate chip cookies from scratch.

Materials and Prep

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven preheated to 350°F (175°C)

Make sure to wash your hands before starting and ask for adult supervision when using the oven.

Activities

  • Mixing the ingredients together to form the cookie dough.
  • Combine the flour, butter, sugars, baking soda, salt, vanilla extract, egg, and chocolate chips in a bowl.

  • Scooping the dough onto the baking sheet.
  • Use a spoon to portion out the dough onto the baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.

  • Baking the cookies in the oven.
  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
