Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to differentiate between rabbits and hares and understand their unique characteristics.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen and paper
  • Access to the internet for research (with parent supervision)

No prior knowledge is required, just bring your curiosity about rabbits and hares!

Activities

  • Research Time: Use the internet to find out interesting facts about rabbits and hares. Write down at least three differences between them.
  • Draw and Label: Draw a picture of a rabbit and a hare. Label the parts that make them unique from each other.
  • Role Play: Pretend to be a rabbit or a hare. Hop around the room and make the sounds you think they would make!

Talking Points

  • Rabbits have shorter ears than hares. You can say, "Rabbits have cute short ears like this 🐰 while hares have long ears like this 🐇."
  • Hares are typically larger and faster than rabbits. You can say, "Hares are like the speedy athletes of the rabbit family, they can run really fast!"
  • Rabbits live in burrows underground, while hares make nests above ground. You can say, "Rabbits like cozy underground homes, but hares prefer nests above the ground like birds."
  • Rabbits are more social animals and live in groups, while hares are more solitary. You can say, "Rabbits like to have lots of bunny friends around, but hares are more independent and like their own space."
