Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will have explored nature through your Nature Study Backpack, written in your journal with creative prompts, and developed a deeper love for the natural world.

Materials and Prep

  • Nature Study Backpack (filled with items like a magnifying glass, notebook, colored pencils, binoculars)
  • Journal or notebook
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes for outdoor exploration
  • Optional: a small snack and water bottle
  • Know the area where you will be exploring

Activities

  • Nature Scavenger Hunt: Use your backpack to find and observe different items in nature. Write or draw what you find in your journal.
  • Journal Prompts: Choose a prompt from your Nature Study Backpack and write a creative story or draw a picture in response.
  • Imaginary Nature Walk: Close your eyes and imagine you are walking through a magical forest. What do you see, hear, and smell? Write about your adventure in your journal.
