Objective
By the end of this nature walk lesson, the student will be able to identify at least three different types of plants or animals, understand the importance of nature, and express their thoughts about what they see and hear in the environment.
Materials and Prep
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- A small bag for collecting natural items (like leaves or stones)
- Water bottle for hydration
- Snack for energy during the walk
Before the lesson, it's important to choose a safe and interesting location for the nature walk, such as a local park or garden. Make sure to check the weather and prepare accordingly.
Activities
-
Nature Scavenger Hunt:
Create a simple list of things to find during the walk, such as a green leaf, a flower, or a bird. As you walk, encourage the student to look for these items and check them off the list.
-
Sound Exploration:
Stop at different points during the walk and listen carefully. Ask the student to identify the sounds they hear, like birds chirping or leaves rustling. This helps them focus on the auditory aspects of nature.
-
Nature Art:
Collect small natural items like leaves, twigs, or stones. Once back home, the student can use these items to create a nature collage or artwork, allowing them to express their creativity.
Talking Points
- "What colors do you see around us? Can you name them?"
- "Can you hear any sounds? What do you think is making those sounds?"
- "Why do you think plants and animals are important to us?"
- "What is your favorite thing we found today? Why do you like it?"
- "How does being outside make you feel? Do you feel happy or excited?"
