Objective

By the end of this lesson, Liv will understand the importance of daily goal setting and will create her own set of achievable daily goals. She will learn how to break down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks and develop a personal strategy for tracking her progress.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook or journal
  • Pens or pencils
  • Colorful markers or highlighters (optional)
  • Timer (can use a phone or clock)
  • Quiet space for reflection and planning

Before the lesson, it’s helpful to think about what goals are important to Liv and what areas she wants to focus on, such as academics, hobbies, or personal growth.

Activities

  • Brainstorming Session: Start the lesson with a brainstorming session where Liv can write down all the things she wants to achieve. Encourage her to think big and small, from finishing a book to learning a new skill.

  • Goal Breakdown: Help Liv select 3-5 goals from her brainstorming list. Then, guide her in breaking each goal down into smaller, actionable steps. For example, if one goal is to read a book, the steps could be: choose a book, read for 20 minutes each day, and finish by a certain date.

  • Daily Goal Chart: Create a daily goal chart together where Liv can write down her goals for the week. She can use colorful markers to make it visually appealing and motivating.

  • Reflection Time: At the end of the week, set aside time for Liv to reflect on her goals. Ask her to think about what worked, what didn’t, and how she can adjust her goals for the following week.

  • "Reflection helps us learn from our experiences. What did you discover about yourself this week?"
  • "Goal setting is a skill that can help you in school and life. What are some areas where you want to grow?"
