Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and read simple words, enhancing their vocabulary and reading skills through fun and engaging activities.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Sticky notes (optional)
- A comfortable space for reading and writing
Before starting the lesson, make sure the student is in a quiet place where they can focus. You may want to think of some simple words that they already know to help guide the activities.
Activities
- Word Hunt:
Go on a word hunt around the house! Look for words on packages, books, or labels. When you find a word, say it out loud together!
- Drawing Words:
Ask the student to pick their favorite word and draw a picture that represents it. For example, if they choose "cat," they can draw a cat and then write the word underneath.
- Sticky Note Challenge:
If you have sticky notes, write simple words on them and place them around the room. Challenge the student to read each word as they find them!
- Word Story:
Create a short story together using 3-5 simple words. Write the words down and help the student read the story aloud, adding fun voices for each character!
