Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the importance of helping at home with chores, learn how to complete various tasks, and feel confident in contributing to household responsibilities.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil for creating a chore chart
  • Access to different areas of the home (kitchen, living room, etc.)
  • Basic cleaning supplies (if available, such as a broom, dustpan, cloth, etc.)
  • A timer (optional, can use a clock)

Before the lesson, ensure the student knows how to safely use any cleaning supplies and is familiar with the areas of the house where chores will be done.

Activities

  • Chore Chart Creation: The student will create a personalized chore chart that includes daily and weekly tasks. This helps in organizing chores and tracking progress.
  • Chore Relay Race: Set a timer and have the student race against the clock to complete simple chores in a fun and energetic way, like picking up toys or dusting surfaces.
  • Role-Playing: The student will pretend to be a "house manager," explaining to a family member (or stuffed animal) how chores benefit the household and why they are important.
  • Chore Appreciation Discussion: After completing chores, the student will discuss how helping at home makes them feel and how it helps the family, fostering a sense of teamwork.
