Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will improve their core strength through fun and engaging activities. They will learn how to perform various exercises that target their abdominal muscles, back, and overall stability, which are essential for physical fitness and everyday activities.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials needed.
- Clear a space in the living room or backyard for movement.
- Make sure the student wears comfortable clothing suitable for exercise.
- Have a timer or stopwatch available for timing activities.
Activities
-
Plank Challenge:
The student will hold a plank position (forearms and toes on the ground) for as long as they can. Start with 20 seconds and gradually increase the time as they get stronger. Encourage them to keep their body straight and not let their hips sag.
-
Superman Exercise:
The student will lie face down on the ground, stretch their arms and legs out, and then lift them off the ground simultaneously, holding for a few seconds before relaxing. This exercise strengthens the lower back and core.
-
Crunches with a Twist:
The student will perform traditional crunches but add a twist at the top to engage the oblique muscles. This can be done by bringing the right elbow to the left knee and vice versa.
-
Bridge Pose:
The student will lie on their back with knees bent and feet flat on the ground, then lift their hips towards the ceiling, holding the position for a few seconds. This exercise strengthens the glutes and core.
-
Animal Walks:
The student will mimic different animals to engage their core while having fun. For example, they can bear crawl like a bear, crawl on all fours like a crab, or hop like a frog. This adds variety and keeps the lesson enjoyable!
