Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe the main parts of a computer, understand their functions, and explain how they work together to help us use the computer.
Materials and Prep
- Computer (or any device with a screen)
- Pencil and paper for drawing
- Coloring materials (crayons, markers, etc.)
- Access to a simple computer diagram online (optional, if available)
Before the lesson, make sure the student is familiar with basic computer usage, such as turning it on and off, and using a mouse or touchpad.
Activities
- Computer Part Scavenger Hunt:
Take a look at your computer and try to find different parts! Can you find the monitor, keyboard, and mouse? Write down what you find and draw a picture of each part!
- Draw Your Own Computer:
Using your pencil and paper, draw a computer. Label each part with its name and what it does. Use your coloring materials to make it colorful!
- Function Matching Game:
Make a list of computer parts and their functions. Then, try to match each part with what it does. For example, what does the keyboard do? Write or draw your answers!
- Computer Story Time:
Imagine your computer parts are characters in a story. Create a short story about how they work together to help you play games or learn something new!
Talking Points
- "What do you think the monitor does? Yes, it shows us pictures and words!"
- "The keyboard is like a magic book! It helps us talk to the computer by typing."
- "Can you guess what the mouse does? It helps us point and click on things!"
- "The tower is like the brain of the computer. It helps everything work together!"
- "Did you know that the computer needs power? That's why we plug it in!"
- "All these parts are friends! They work together to help us have fun and learn!"
- "What would happen if we didn't have one of these parts? Let's think about it!"
