Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe the main parts of a computer, including the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU. They will understand the basic functions of each part and how they work together to help us use computers.
Materials and Prep
- Pen or pencil
- Paper for drawing
- Access to a computer (optional for demonstration)
- Knowledge about the basic parts of a computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU)
Activities
-
Draw Your Computer!
Have the student draw a picture of a computer setup. They should include the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU. Encourage them to label each part and add colors to make it fun!
-
Parts of the Computer Scavenger Hunt!
Ask the student to find each part of the computer around the house (if available). If they can't find a part, they can describe what it looks like and its function. For example, "The monitor shows the pictures!"
-
Computer Part Role Play!
Have the student pretend to be each part of the computer. For example, they can act like the monitor by holding up a picture and saying, "I show the pictures!" This will help them remember what each part does.
Talking Points
- "The monitor is like a TV; it shows us what we are doing on the computer!"
- "The keyboard is our way to talk to the computer. We type letters and numbers!"
- "The mouse helps us point to things on the screen, like a finger pointing!"
- "The CPU is like the brain of the computer. It helps make everything work!"
- "All these parts work together like a team to help us use the computer!"
- "Can you think of something fun you do with a computer? Let’s talk about it!"
- "Remember, each part has a special job, just like you have special jobs at home!"
