Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different types of plants and animals in nature, understand their roles in the ecosystem, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world around them.
Materials and Prep
- Outdoor space (backyard, park, or garden)
- Notebook or paper for drawing
- Crayons or colored pencils
- A magnifying glass (optional)
Before the lesson, make sure the outdoor space is safe and accessible. Familiarize yourself with local plants and animals that your student might encounter.
Activities
-
Nature Walk: Take a walk outside and explore the area. Look for different plants, trees, and animals. Ask the student to point out what they see and describe it.
-
Plant and Animal Drawing: After the walk, have the student draw their favorite plant or animal they saw. Encourage them to use lots of colors and details.
-
Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a simple scavenger hunt by asking the student to find items such as a leaf, a flower, or a bug. Make it fun by giving them a checklist to mark off.
-
Story Time: Sit down and share a fun story about nature or a specific animal. You can make up a story based on what you saw during the walk!

- "What do you think this bug is doing? Is it helping the flowers?"
- "Every part of nature is important! Why do you think we should take care of it?"
