Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about apples, including their colors, shapes, and how they grow. The student will also engage in fun activities that enhance their understanding and appreciation of this delicious fruit.

Materials and Prep

  • 1 apple (any color)
  • Paper and crayons
  • Outdoor space (for apple tree exploration)
  • A small bowl of water (for washing the apple)
  • Knowledge about apples (color, taste, and growth process)

Activities

  1. Apple Exploration:

Start by examining the apple together. Look at its color, feel its texture, and smell it. Ask the student questions like, "What color is the apple?" and "How does it feel?"

  2. Apple Art:

Using paper and crayons, have the student draw their favorite type of apple. Encourage them to use different colors and shapes. You can say, "Let's make a big, red apple with a shiny green leaf!"

  3. Washing the Apple:

Take the apple and wash it together in a bowl of water. Explain that washing fruits is important. You can say, "We wash our apple to make it clean and safe to eat!"

  4. Outdoor Apple Hunt:

If possible, go outside and look for apple trees or even just pretend to look for apples. Talk about where apples grow. Say, "Apples grow on trees, just like the ones we see outside!"

Talking Points

  • "Did you know apples can be red, green, or yellow? What color do you like best?"
  • "Apples are round and yummy! Can you find something else that is round?"
  • "We can eat apples raw, or we can cook them! What's your favorite way to eat an apple?"
  • "An apple a day keeps the doctor away! That means apples are very healthy for us!"
  • "Apples grow on trees. Can you pretend to be an apple tree with me?"
