Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 1-year-old will have engaged in various physical activities that promote gross motor skills, coordination, and balance, while having fun and enjoying movement.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Ensure a safe, open space for movement, free from obstacles.
- Be prepared to follow the child's lead and adapt activities based on their interest and energy level.
Activities
-
Wiggly Worm Dance: Play some fun music and encourage the child to wiggle and dance like a worm. This helps with body awareness and rhythm.
-
Crawl Race: Set a short distance and encourage the child to crawl to you or a favorite toy. Cheer them on to motivate them to move faster!
-
Ball Rolling: Use a soft ball (or any round object) and roll it back and forth. This activity promotes hand-eye coordination and encourages reaching and stretching.
-
Obstacle Course: Create a simple course using pillows or soft furniture. Encourage the child to climb over, crawl under, or walk around the obstacles.
Talking Points
- "Look at you dance! You're a wiggly worm!"
- "Ready, set, go! Crawl to Mommy/Daddy!"
- "Can you roll the ball to me? Great job!"
- "Wow! You climbed over the pillow! You're so strong!"
