Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different kinds of hair developers, understand their uses, compare and contrast color and developer using a Venn diagram, and select and mix color and developer based on client hair conditions and desired outcomes.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored markers for Venn diagram
- Sample hair swatches (if available) or pictures of different hair types
- Access to online resources or textbooks about hair coloring
- Notebook for taking notes
Before the lesson, ensure to gather information on different types of hair developers and their uses. Familiarize yourself with hair color theory and the basic principles of mixing color and developer.
Activities
-
Research and Identify Hair Developers
The student will research different kinds of hair developers (10, 20, 30, and 40 volume) and their specific uses. They will create a chart that outlines each developer's volume, its purpose, and suitable hair types.
-
Create a Venn Diagram
Using the information gathered, the student will create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting hair color and developer. They will highlight similarities and differences in their purposes, applications, and effects on hair.
-
Mixing Color and Developer
The student will select a hypothetical client’s hair condition, length, and desired outcome. They will then choose an appropriate color and developer, explaining their reasoning behind the selection and mixing process.
Talking Points
- "What are the different types of hair developers, and how do they affect the hair?"
- "How can we visually represent the similarities and differences between color and developer?"
- "Why is it important to consider the client's hair condition when selecting color and developer?"
- "How does the volume of developer influence the final outcome of the hair color?"
- "Can you explain the mixing ratio for color and developer, and why it's crucial for achieving the desired result?"
- "What safety precautions should be taken when working with hair color and developer?"
