Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a unique digital character using their imagination and basic design principles. They will learn about character traits, visual design, and how to express personality through art.

Materials and Prep

  • Computer or tablet with drawing software (like MS Paint, GIMP, or any other free app).
  • Paper and pencil for sketching ideas before digital creation.
  • Access to online resources or tutorials on character design (optional).
  • A comfortable workspace with good lighting.

Activities

  • Brainstorming Session:

Start by brainstorming ideas for your character. Think about what kind of character you want to create: a hero, a villain, or a sidekick? Write down their personality traits, likes, and dislikes. This will help you design a character that is unique and interesting.

  • Sketching Your Character:

Using paper and pencil, sketch your character based on the ideas you brainstormed. Focus on their physical appearance, clothing, and any special features that make them stand out. Don't worry about making it perfect—this is just a draft!

  • Digital Creation:

Once you are happy with your sketch, open your drawing software and start creating your character digitally. Use different tools to add color, texture, and details. Experiment with different styles until you find one that you love!

  • Character Backstory:

Write a short backstory for your character. Where do they come from? What adventures have they had? This will help you understand your character better and can inspire future designs or stories.
