Objective
By the end of this lesson, Lively will understand the basics of nutrition, including the importance of different food groups and how they help our bodies grow strong and healthy.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Access to a kitchen (for some fun cooking activities)
- Knowledge about the five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy
Activities
-
Food Group Art:
Lively will draw pictures of her favorite foods from each of the five food groups. She can color them and label each food group. This will help her remember what foods belong where!
-
Healthy Plate Creation:
Using the kitchen, Lively can create a "healthy plate" using real food items (if available). She can choose one food from each group and arrange them on a plate for a colorful display.
-
Food Group Dance:
Let's make a fun dance! For each food group, Lively can create a silly dance move. When we say "fruits," she can jump, and when we say "vegetables," she can wiggle. This will make learning fun!
-
Story Time:
Read a short story about a character who learns about healthy eating. After the story, discuss what the character ate and how it helped them.
