Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn basic gymnastics and ninja movements, improve their balance and coordination, and understand the importance of physical fitness in a fun and engaging way.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space (preferably indoors or outdoors with a soft surface)
  • Comfortable clothing for movement
  • Water bottle for hydration
  • A mat or soft surface for practicing rolls and falls (if available)

Before the lesson, ensure the space is clear of obstacles and safe for movement. Explain the importance of warming up before any physical activity.

Activities

  • Warm-Up Stretching

Start with a fun stretching routine! Stretch arms, legs, and back while pretending to be different animals. For example, reach like a giraffe or bend like a cat.

  • Balance Beam Walk

Find a straight line on the ground (or use a tape line if necessary) and practice walking heel-to-toe. Challenge the student to keep their arms out for balance, just like a gymnast!

  • Roll Like a Ninja

Practice forward rolls on a soft surface. Explain how ninjas use rolls to safely get up and down. Make it fun by pretending to dodge imaginary obstacles!

  • Jumping and Landing

Set up a safe area to practice jumping and landing. Teach the student how to jump high and land softly, bending their knees like a ninja preparing for action!

  • Obstacle Course

Create a mini obstacle course using furniture or safe items around the home. Include crawling under tables, jumping over pillows, and balancing on lines to mimic ninja training.

Talking Points

  • "Why do you think stretching is important before we start moving?"
  • "Can you show me how you would balance on a real balance beam?"
  • "What do you think ninjas do to stay safe when they roll?"
  • "How can we jump high like a ninja and land softly?"
  • "What was your favorite part of the obstacle course?"
  • "How does practicing these movements help you in gymnastics and being a ninja?"
  • "Do you feel stronger and more flexible after our lesson today?"
  • "What other fun movements can we try next time?"
