Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different types of dinosaurs, understand their habitats, and explain why they are important to our understanding of Earth’s history.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • A comfortable space to sit and draw
  • Knowledge about dinosaurs (basic facts, types, habitats)

Activities

  • Dinosaur Drawing: The student will draw their favorite dinosaur and include details about its habitat. Encourage them to be creative and use lots of colors!

  • Dinosaur Fact Sheet: The student will create a fact sheet about the dinosaur they drew, including its name, what it ate, and where it lived.

  • Dinosaur Story Time: The student will write a short story featuring their dinosaur as the main character. They can describe an adventure that their dinosaur goes on!

  • Dinosaur Movement Game: Create a fun game where the student pretends to be different dinosaurs. They can stomp like a T-Rex or flap their arms like a Pterodactyl!

  • "Did you know that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago? They were the rulers of the Earth!"
  • "There were many types of dinosaurs, like the big T-Rex and the long-necked Brachiosaurus. Can you name any others?"
  • "Dinosaurs lived in different habitats, like forests, deserts, and even near water. Where do you think your dinosaur lived?"
  • "Some dinosaurs were herbivores, which means they only ate plants. Others were carnivores and ate meat. What do you think your dinosaur ate?"
  • "Fossils are the remains of dinosaurs that scientists find. They help us learn about what dinosaurs looked like and how they lived!"
  • "Dinosaurs went extinct a long time ago, but they left behind a lot of clues about their lives. What clues do you think we can find?"
