Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of biographies, identify key elements of a person's life story, and create a simple biography about someone they admire.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or pen
- Colored markers or crayons (optional)
- Access to a quiet space for writing
- Knowledge of at least one person they admire (could be a historical figure, family member, or celebrity)
Activities
- Introduction to Biographies: Start with a brief discussion about what a biography is. Explain that it's a story about someone's life written by someone else. Ask the student if they can name any famous biographies or people they admire.
- Biography Brainstorm: Have the student choose a person they admire. Encourage them to think about the person's life, achievements, and what makes them special. They can write down key facts or stories about this person on a separate piece of paper.
- Creating a Biography: Using the information gathered, the student will write a simple biography of their chosen person. They can structure it with an introduction, body (key life events), and conclusion. Encourage creativity in how they present the information!
- Artistic Presentation: Once the biography is written, the student can illustrate it with drawings or use colored markers to highlight important parts. This can make their biography visually appealing!
- Sharing Time: Finally, have the student present their biography to you. This will help them practice speaking and sharing their work. Ask them questions about their chosen person to encourage deeper thinking.
