Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the importance of chores, learn how to effectively manage them, and develop a fun and engaging routine for taking care of the home.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil for making a chore list
  • Timer (can use a phone or clock)
  • Cleaning supplies (like a cloth or broom, if available)
  • Access to different rooms in the house for various chores
  • Optional: Music for a fun atmosphere

Before starting the lesson, it’s helpful to have a discussion with the student about which chores they already know how to do and which ones they might want to learn.

Activities

  • Chore Chart Creation:

Help the student create a colorful chore chart. They can list daily, weekly, and monthly chores, and decorate it with drawings or stickers. This will make chores more fun and visually appealing!

  • Chore Relay Race:

Set a timer and have a friendly competition to see how many chores the student can complete in a set amount of time. This can include tasks like picking up toys, dusting surfaces, or sweeping. Make it exciting by playing music!

  • Chore Role Play:

Role-play different scenarios where chores are needed. For example, pretend there’s a party coming up and the house needs to be cleaned. Discuss which chores should be prioritized and why.

  • Chore Reflection:

At the end of the lesson, have the student reflect on which chores they enjoyed the most and why. They can write down their thoughts or share them verbally.
