Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basics of being a doctor, including what doctors do, how they help people, and some fun tools they use. The student will also engage in activities that encourage imaginative play related to being a doctor.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons or markers
  • Stuffed animals or dolls (to act as patients)
  • A timer (optional, for fun challenges)
  • A simple chart of body parts (drawn or printed)

Before the lesson, prepare a simple drawing of the human body with labels for the head, arms, legs, and heart. Make sure to have a few stuffed animals or dolls ready to be the 'patients' for the activities.

Activities

  • Doctor Dress-Up:

    Let the student dress up as a doctor using a white shirt or a lab coat. Provide a toy stethoscope if available. Encourage them to act like a doctor, checking the 'patients' (stuffed animals or dolls).

  • Patient Check-Up:

    Using the stuffed animals or dolls, have the student perform a check-up. They can use their hands to check the heartbeat, pretend to look in the ears, and ask the patients how they feel.

  • Body Parts Drawing:

    Have the student draw a simple picture of a body and label the parts like the head, arms, and legs. This will help them learn about the different parts of the body and what doctors check during a visit.

  • Doctor's Tools Game:

    Play a game where you name different tools doctors use (like a stethoscope, thermometer, or band-aids) and the student has to pretend to use them on their 'patients'.

  • "A doctor listens to your heart with a stethoscope. Can you pretend to listen to your stuffed animal's heart?"
