Objective

By the end of this lesson, D will be able to use basic Spanish vocabulary related to everyday activities, understand fundamental math concepts through a fun game, appreciate a simple musical piece, and conduct a basic science experiment. This integrated approach will help D connect different subjects while enhancing language skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen for notes
  • Flashcards with Spanish vocabulary words
  • Basic math problems printed on paper
  • Access to a simple musical instrument (like a keyboard or guitar)
  • Household items for a science experiment (e.g., vinegar, baking soda, balloon)

Before the lesson, prepare flashcards with vocabulary words in Spanish and their English translations. Ensure the musical instrument is tuned and ready for use. Gather all materials needed for the science experiment in advance.

Activities

  • Spanish Vocabulary Game:

Using the flashcards, play a game where D has to match the Spanish words with their English meanings. For added fun, time the activity and see how many pairs can be matched in one minute!

  • Math Challenge:

Present D with a series of math problems that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Turn it into a timed challenge where D can earn points for each correct answer. Use a scoreboard to track progress.

  • Musical Exploration:

Choose a simple song in Spanish and practice playing it on the instrument. Discuss the meaning of the lyrics and how music can convey emotions. D can also create a short rhythm using claps or tapping to understand beats.

  • Science Experiment:

Conduct a fun experiment using vinegar and baking soda to inflate a balloon. Discuss the chemical reaction that occurs and how gases are produced. D can write down the steps and results in the notebook.
