Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basics of creating engaging content for YouTube, including how to plan, script, and present a video. They will also explore the importance of storytelling and audience engagement in their videos.

Materials and Prep

  • A notebook and pen for brainstorming and scripting.
  • A smartphone or camera for recording (if available).
  • A computer or tablet for video editing (optional).
  • Access to YouTube to watch examples of popular videos.

Before the lesson, ensure the student has a basic understanding of how to use YouTube and is familiar with different types of content they enjoy watching.

Activities

  • Video Idea Brainstorming: The student will spend 15 minutes brainstorming ideas for a YouTube video they would like to create. Encourage them to think about their interests and what type of content they enjoy watching.
  • Scripting the Video: Once they have an idea, the student will write a short script or outline for their video. This should include an introduction, main points, and a conclusion. Guide them to think about how they will engage their audience.
  • Practice Presentation: The student will then practice presenting their script. They can do this in front of a mirror or record themselves on their phone. This will help them get comfortable with speaking on camera.
  • Watch and Analyze: Together, watch a few popular YouTube videos that align with their interests. Discuss what makes these videos engaging and what the student can learn from them.
