Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will gain essential survival skills, including shelter building, fire-starting techniques, and understanding the importance of water and food sources. The student will also develop problem-solving skills and confidence in outdoor scenarios.
Materials and Prep
- Natural materials found outside (sticks, leaves, rocks, etc.)
- Two different types of tinder (dry leaves, grass, etc.)
- A small container for collecting water
- Notebook and pen for notes

Before the lesson, ensure that the student knows the basics of their surroundings and has permission to explore safely. Discuss the importance of staying within a designated area and being aware of wildlife.
Activities

- Fire Starting Challenge: Using two different types of tinder, the student will practice starting a fire with friction methods (like the hand drill technique) or using a magnifying glass. They will learn about fire safety and its significance in survival.
- Water Collection: The student will explore their surroundings to find a water source. They will learn how to identify safe water sources and discuss methods for purifying water.
- Foraging Basics: The student will look for edible plants and discuss their nutritional value. They will learn how to identify safe vs. unsafe plants and the importance of knowing local flora.
